Overview

Der p 2-specific B-cell receptors (BCRs) are membrane-bound immunoglobulins expressed on the surface of B cells that selectively recognize the major house dust mite allergen, Der p 2 [1]. These receptors are central to the allergic cascade, as their engagement by the allergen triggers B-cell activation, clonal expansion, and differentiation into plasma cells that secrete Der p 2-specific IgE antibodies [2]. This IgE then binds to high-affinity receptors on mast cells and basophils, priming the immune system for an inflammatory response upon re-exposure to the allergen [3]. In the context of therapeutic intervention, these BCRs are the primary targets of allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT), which seeks to reprogram the immune response toward tolerance by inducing regulatory B cells and shifting antibody production from IgE to protective IgG4 [4]. Advanced research is also investigating the selective depletion of B cells bearing these specific receptors using engineered T-cells or targeted biologics to provide a more definitive cure for house dust mite-induced asthma and rhinitis [5].
