Overview

DICER1 antisense RNA 1 (DICER1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the DICER1 gene. It does not encode a protein but regulates gene expression at the post-transcriptional level by interacting with microRNAs (such as miR-34a-5p and miR-650). DICER1-AS1 acts as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), influencing the levels and activity of specific miRNAs, and thereby modulating the expression of downstream target genes involved in cell cycle, apoptosis, drug resistance, and cellular metabolism. It has been implicated in the suppression of cell proliferation and migration in gastric and pancreatic cancer, and in chemotherapy drug resistance in osteosarcoma. Due to its regulatory roles in tumor biology, DICER1-AS1 is studied mainly as a functional RNA in cancer research rather than as a direct therapeutic drug target.

Mechanism of action

Drugs modulate responses in cells with altered DICER1-AS1 levels, affecting drug resistance/sensitivity. Regulates resistance to chemotherapeutic agents by modulating apoptosis and cell cycle arrest.
