Dietary phosphate refers to inorganic phosphate ingested through food, which is absorbed primarily in the small intestine. Absorption occurs via paracellular and transcellular pathways, regulated by vitamin D, dietary intake, and hormones. Mechanism of action

Phosphate binders sequester dietary phosphate in the gut lumen, reducing its absorption. NHE3 inhibitors reduce paracellular phosphate permeability. NaPi-IIb inhibitors reduce transcellular phosphate uptake.
