This target profile describes a combination of immunogenic components used in multi-valent vaccines to protect against four significant infectious diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), and poliomyelitis (Source: CDC, 2023). The pertussis component consists of acellular antigens from Bordetella pertussis, such as pertussis toxin and filamentous hemagglutinin, while the polio component contains inactivated poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3 (Source: FDA, Kinrix Label). These antigens are recognized by the host's immune system, leading to the production of specific antibodies and the formation of immunological memory (Source: WHO, 2022). This combined approach allows for broad protection with fewer injections, effectively preventing the severe respiratory, neurological, and muscular complications associated with these pathogens.
The antigens induce active immunity by stimulating B-lymphocytes to produce neutralizing antibodies and priming T-lymphocytes for long-term immunological memory against specific bacterial toxins and viral proteins (Source: CDC, 2023; WHO, 2022).
