Target intelligence / Profile preview
Diphtheria toxin is a potent exotoxin secreted primarily by Corynebacterium diphtheriae. The toxoid is an inactivated form of the toxin, produced by treating the purified diphtheria toxin with formaldehyde, retaining immunogenicity but losing toxicity, making it suitable for use in vaccines to induce protective immunity.
Induces IgG antitoxin antibodies that neutralize circulating toxins.
