Overview

Trypanosomes possess a unique set of DNA-associated enzymes essential for the maintenance, replication, and repair of their kinetoplast DNA (kDNA). These enzymes include specialized DNA polymerases (Pol β, Pol β-PAK, POLIA, POLIB, POLIC, POLID), PIF1-like helicases (TbPIF2), and Ribonuclease H2A (TbRH2A) involved in nucleotide metabolism and genome integrity. They ensure accurate replication of minicircles and maxicircles, repair oxidative lesions, and maintain mitochondrial genome stability, vital for parasite survival.
