DNA Synthesis (Purine Analog Target)

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Antimetabolite, Nucleic acid synthesis inhibitor, DNA polymerase inhibitor, Primase inhibitor, Ligase I inhibitor
01

Overview

Purine analogs are antimetabolite compounds that interfere with DNA and RNA synthesis by mimicking natural purines (adenine and guanine). They inhibit key enzymes involved in de novo purine synthesis or are incorporated into DNA, leading to miscoding and cytotoxicity, particularly in rapidly dividing cells. These drugs are primarily used in cancer chemotherapy and immunosuppression.
