Target intelligence / Profile preview
DNAJB8 antisense RNA 1 (DNAJB8-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) and a natural antisense transcript to the protein-coding gene DNAJB8[3][6]. It does not encode a protein. DNAJB8-AS1 is expressed in certain cancer types, embryonic stem cell lines, and during spermatogenesis[3]. Its function is likely regulatory, possibly modulating the expression of the DNAJB8 gene, which itself encodes a member of the HSP40 family of chaperone proteins and is implicated in cancer stem cell maintenance[3][6]. As an antisense RNA, DNAJB8-AS1 may participate in mechanisms such as regulation of mRNA stability, transcriptional interference, or chromatin modification[4][6]. There is currently no evidence that DNAJB8-AS1 serves as a direct therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs or biomarkers based specifically on this transcript[1][3][6]. Notes on ambiguity: - DNAJB8-AS1 should not be confused with its sense partner, DNAJB8, which encodes a protein and has been more directly implicated as a target in cancer research[2][5]. DNAJB8-AS1 is a lncRNA, not a receptor, enzyme, or other classical therapeutic target. - It is valid as a gene entry but not as a therapy-modifiable molecular target on its own according to current evidence.
