Double C2-like domains, beta pseudogene

Overview

Double C2-like domains, beta pseudogene (ENSG00000267295) is a genomic sequence similar to the functional double C2-like domain beta (DOC2B) gene but contains defects that make it incapable of encoding a functional protein. Pseudogenes like this can arise via gene duplication or retrotransposition but typically lack protein-coding potential due to frameshifts, premature stop codons, or other disruptive mutations. The functional DOC2B protein is a vesicle priming protein that plays a role in glucose-stimulated insulin secretion in pancreatic beta cells, localizes to the inner plasma membrane and cytosol, and binds phospholipids via tandem C2 domains[4]. However, ENSG00000267295 does not encode a functional DOC2B protein, and there is no evidence it acts as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other classical drug target.\n\nKey distinctions:\n\n- This entry is not a classic drug target and should not be classified as a receptor, transporter, or enzyme.\n- It is incorrect to treat this pseudogene as a functional molecular target.\n- The functional gene/protein, DOC2B, is involved in beta cell biology and insulin secretion, but the pseudogene has no confirmed biological or clinical relevance[4].
