Overview

Down-regulated in renal cell carcinoma 1 (DRR1), also known as FAM107A or TU3A, is a protein that is frequently lost or significantly reduced in various malignancies, particularly renal cell carcinoma and gliomas. Located on chromosome 3p21.1, a region often deleted in cancers, DRR1 functions primarily as a tumor suppressor by modulating the actin cytoskeleton and inhibiting cell migration and proliferation. It is known to bind to F-actin and localize to both the cytoplasm and the nucleus, where it may influence gene expression and cell cycle progression. In the central nervous system, DRR1 plays a role in synaptic plasticity and has been linked to stress-related neuropsychiatric conditions. While there are currently no approved drugs directly targeting DRR1, it is a subject of research for gene therapy and as a prognostic biomarker. Its ability to induce apoptosis and arrest the cell cycle makes it an attractive candidate for therapeutic restoration in deficient tumors.
