Dynein, cytoplasmic, light polypeptide 1 pseudogene (ENSG00000234001) is a nonfunctional DNA segment that retains high sequence similarity to the functional dynein light chain gene but is incapable of encoding a functional protein product due to disabling mutations. It is classified as a pseudogene: a remnant of a once-functional gene that has lost coding capacity through evolutionary processes. While some pseudogenes are occasionally transcribed and may participate in gene regulation as noncoding RNAs, there is no evidence that this particular pseudogene serves such a function. It has no known role as a drug target, biomarker, or disease-associated gene.
