CD73, also known as ecto-5'-nucleotidase or NT5E, is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored cell surface enzyme that plays a central role in purine metabolism and extracellular adenosine production. It catalyzes the dephosphorylation of extracellular adenosine monophosphate (AMP) to adenosine, modulating immune responses, vascular integrity, and neuronal activity. Inhibition of CD73 is explored as a therapeutic strategy to enhance anti-tumor immune responses.
