Embryonic stem cell related (non-protein coding) (ESRG) is a long non-coding RNA gene mainly expressed in human embryonic stem cells[5][3][7]. It is associated with stem cell pluripotency and maintenance, and high ESRG expression is a marker of undifferentiated human embryonic stem cells[1][5]. The gene is primarily localized to the cell nucleus and does not code for a functional protein product[5][3][7]. ESRG has been studied in the context of embryonic stem cell biology and may be dysregulated in some cancers, such as colorectal cancer and germinoma, but there is currently no evidence that it is a classical therapeutic target like a receptor or enzyme[5]. It is classified as a non-coding RNA, specifically a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), and is not known to interact with any drugs or serve as a clinical biomarker at present[5].
