Overview

Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) antigens are a diverse group of molecules, including O and H serogroups, colonization factor antigens (CFAs), and heat-labile (LT) and heat-stable (ST) toxins, as well as novel proteins such as EtpA and EatA. These antigens mediate adhesion to the intestinal epithelium and induce diarrheal disease. They are important targets for vaccine development, but antigenic heterogeneity necessitates multivalent approaches and the inclusion of conserved proteins to ensure broad protection.
