Overview

Estrogen receptor X" (abbreviated as ER-X) is a proposed membrane-associated estrogen receptor identified in some research as distinct from the classical nuclear estrogen receptors ERα (estrogen receptor alpha) and ERβ (estrogen receptor beta)[1]. ER-X is believed to mediate rapid, non-genomic estrogen signaling at the cell membrane and appear in certain tissues, but its molecular identity, physiological relevance, and clinical significance remain controversial and poorly defined. It is sometimes described as a G protein-coupled receptor but is not universally acknowledged in major receptor classification systems. As such, ER-X is not recognized as a validated or established therapeutic target, and no drugs or biomarkers are clinically linked to it. The use of "Estrogen receptor X" or "ER-X" is discouraged in formal applications unless compelling evidence for its distinct function or structure emerges[1]. If you meant a different estrogen receptor (for example, ERα, ERβ, or GPER), please specify; these have well-established names, functions, and roles as therapeutic targets[1][2][3][4].
