Overview

Exonuclease 3'-5' domain containing 3 (EXD3) is a protein-coding human gene that encodes an enzyme with predicted and experimentally supported 3'-5' exoribonuclease activity. EXD3 is required for 3'-end processing of certain microRNAs (AGO1-bound miRNAs), contributes to nucleic acid (DNA and RNA) metabolism, and has metal ion binding capability[1][3][4]. Its up-regulation is associated with increased risk and poorer prognosis in gastric cancer, suggesting a possible role in DNA damage repair and nucleotide metabolism, and making it a proposed candidate for prognostic cancer biomarker development[1][6]. There are currently no approved drugs targeting EXD3 directly, and its precise roles in other disease processes (e.g., thyroid hormone resistance) are not yet clearly characterized.
