Extracellular matrix glycosaminoglycan replacement, specifically using heparan sulfate mimics, involves synthetic or engineered molecules designed to replicate the structure and function of natural heparan sulfate (HS) glycosaminoglycans in the ECM. These mimics aim to restore HS functions in damaged tissues by providing a stable scaffold for binding growth factors, cytokines, and proteins, thereby promoting tissue repair, modulating inflammation, and potentially inhibiting cancer progression.
Restores lost heparan sulfate functions in damaged tissues by providing an enzymatically stable scaffold that rebinds/sequesters growth factors, cytokines, and proteins within the ECM. Protects key proteins from degradation, modulates inflammatory responses, and inhibits tumor-associated enzymes without anticoagulant activity.
