Overview

Extracellular matrix protein X-linked, pseudogene (ECMXP) is a genomic locus classified as a pseudogene—that is, a genomic DNA sequence similar to a known protein-coding gene but presumed to be nonfunctional due to mutation or truncation. Pseudogenes such as ECMXP do not typically encode active proteins and are not conventional drug targets, but recent evidence suggests that some pseudogenes may regulate gene function through the production of non-coding RNA transcripts. These transcripts can affect biological processes by acting as molecular decoys for microRNAs or RNA-binding proteins or by generating regulatory RNAs. However, there is no specific evidence or published literature indicating a biological or disease role for ECMXP itself[1][2][3][4].
