Overview

F-box and leucine-rich repeat protein 21, pseudogene (FBXL21P) is a transcribed pseudogene related to the F-box protein family, which typically participate as substrate recognition subunits in SCF (SKP1–CUL1–F-box) E3 ubiquitin ligase complexes involved in protein ubiquitination. However, FBXL21P does not encode a functional protein; instead, it is a pseudogene, meaning it is a genomic sequence similar to a gene but generally regarded as non-functional in humans due to accumulated mutations or lack of expression. The protein product described for closely related functional genes in this family is involved in regulating circadian rhythms by targeting CRY proteins for ubiquitination, but those functions do not apply to FBXL21P in humans. No known drugs target this pseudogene, and it is not considered a therapeutic or biological target.
