Family with sequence similarity 25 member E, pseudogene (FAM25EP) is a human pseudogene located on chromosome 10. Pseudogenes are genomic segments that resemble functional genes but typically carry disabling mutations or lack necessary regulatory elements, making them non-protein coding under most circumstances. Although the conventional view has been that pseudogenes are non-functional, recent research indicates some may have important roles in gene regulation, epigenetic modulation, or even encode regulatory RNAs. There is no direct evidence of FAM25EP encoding a functional protein or being involved in a druggable biological pathway. It is not currently recognized as a therapeutic target, and it should not be catalogued as such without further functional validation.
