Target intelligence / Profile preview
FAST kinase domain-containing protein 1, mitochondrial (FASTKD1), is a member of the FAST kinase family of RNA-binding proteins localized to mitochondria, where it plays key roles in mitochondrial RNA processing, stability, and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. FASTKD1 regulates levels of mitochondrial-encoded ND3 mRNA and negatively modulates complex I activity, with its activity dependent on the RAP domain. It is involved in biological processes such as cell cycle control, apoptosis, and the cellular response to stress, including oxidative stress and the integrated stress response in cardiac tissue. Elevated expression of FASTKD1 has been observed in multiple cancer types and in cardiovascular disease contexts, making it a candidate diagnostic and prognostic biomarker, with potential therapeutic relevance. Genomic alterations of FASTKD1 have been linked to modulation of immune cell infiltration and tumor microenvironment, with further implications noted for neurodegenerative and developmental disorders. Its molecular mechanisms, particularly regarding interactions with potential drugs, remain to be fully elucidated.
Not established for drugs; functions through RNA-binding and regulation of mitochondrial mRNA stability, mainly via its RAP domain affecting MT-ND3 mRNA levels and complex I activity
