FEV transcription factor, ETS family member (abbreviated FEV and also known as PET-1) is a member of the ETS transcription factor family characterized by a conserved DNA-binding domain. It plays a pivotal role in the differentiation, maturation, and maintenance of serotonergic neurons in the central nervous system by initiating and regulating serotonin synthesis and related gene expression; its expression is largely restricted to the raphe nuclei in the brain. FEV also functions as a transcriptional repressor. In pathological contexts, FEV is identified as a marker for serotonin-producing cells in certain neuroendocrine tumors and it may be involved in oncogenic fusions in some sarcomas. Additionally, it serves as a conserved regulator of hematopoietic stem cell development through ERK signaling modulation. Dysregulation of FEV has been implicated in a range of disorders, including specific cancers, neuropsychiatric conditions, and other pathologies related to abnormal serotonin physiology[1][2][4][5][7].
