Overview

FGF14-IT1 is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from an intronic region within the FGF14 gene. Unlike the coding FGF14 gene, which encodes a member of the fibroblast growth factor family with known roles in neuronal function and disease, FGF14-IT1 itself does not encode a protein[2][9]. It is classified as a non-protein coding transcript—its expression and biological functions remain poorly characterized. Current evidence indicates that FGF14-IT1 is downregulated in osteosarcoma samples compared to normal bone tissue, and it may interact with other non-coding RNAs implicated in neurodegenerative disease[2][8]. There is no evidence that FGF14-IT1 is a direct therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter), nor are there known drugs that interact with it. Its functional roles may include regulation of gene expression in the nervous system and perhaps modulation of disease risk, but these findings are preliminary and demand further study[2][9].
