Overview
Fibrinogen is a large, soluble plasma glycoprotein that plays a central role in blood clotting (hemostasis), wound healing, and inflammation. It is synthesized primarily in the liver and circulates in human blood plasma. Upon vascular injury or activation of the coagulation cascade, thrombin cleaves fibrinopeptides A and B from fibrinogen, producing soluble fibrin monomers that polymerize into insoluble fibrin strands—forming the structural basis for blood clots.
