Target intelligence / Profile preview

Fimbriae Types 2 & 3 (Fim2/3)

Target
Fim2/3
Molecular classification
Protein, Adhesin, Fimbrial subunit
01

Overview

Fimbriae are filamentous protein structures on bacterial surfaces that mediate adhesion, colonization, and biofilm formation. Types 2 and 3 fimbriae are specific variants found in different bacterial species like Bordetella pertussis and uropathogenic Escherichia coli, contributing to virulence by enabling attachment to host tissues. Type 3 fimbriae, particularly, are associated with catheter-associated urinary tract infections.
