The FMO6P gene, also known as Flavin-containing dimethylaniline monooxygenase 6, pseudogene, is a member of the flavin-containing monooxygenase (FMO) family. FMOs are enzymes involved in the oxygenation of drugs and xenobiotics, typically via N- or S-oxidation, and contribute significantly to phase I metabolism of xenobiotics in humans[3][5][6]. However, unlike other FMOs (such as FMO1–5), the FMO6P gene is a pseudogene and does not encode a functional enzyme in humans. In other species, related FMO6 orthologs may retain enzymatic activity, but the human FMO6P gene product is nonfunctional, and there is no evidence of any physiological activity, disease association, or drug interactions. Thus, FMO6P is not considered a valid therapeutic target in human biology[5][7].
