Overview

Flavin-containing monooxygenase 7, pseudogene (FMO7P) is a human pseudogene, meaning it is a non-functional DNA sequence related by sequence similarity to the functional flavin-containing monooxygenase (FMO) gene family, but does not encode an active enzyme[1][5][7]. FMO pseudogenes, including FMO7P, are found clustered on chromosome 1q24.1 alongside other FMO pseudogenes[4][7]. The functional FMO family enzymes play key roles in the oxidative metabolism of drugs, xenobiotics, and dietary compounds; however, FMO7P is not expressed as a functional protein and has no known physiological or pathological role, enzymatic function, or relevance to drug targeting[1][4][5][7]. There are no known disease associations, biomarker potential, or safety concerns with FMO7P, and it is not considered a therapeutic target. FMO7P is part of a cluster of FMO pseudogenes (FMO7P–FMO11P) in the human genome[4][7]. Functional FMO genes include FMO1–FMO5, which are involved in drug metabolism, but pseudogenes like FMO7P lack enzymatic activity and are not involved in metabolism or disease[2][3][4][5]. No drugs are known to interact or act on FMO7P; it is not involved in signaling, cellular regulation, or any biological processes[1][4][5][7].
