Target intelligence / Profile preview
FOLH1B (Folate Hydrolase 1B pseudogene) is a nonfunctional gene segment that shares high sequence homology with the functional Folate Hydrolase 1 gene (FOLH1), but cannot produce a functional protein product. Pseudogenes such as FOLH1B may sometimes retain partial molecular features or low-level transcription, but generally lack protein-coding capability. Some pseudogenes can have RNA-based regulatory functions—such as modulating microRNA availability or regulating parental gene expression—but FOLH1B has no established protein or therapeutic relevance, nor is it implicated in direct disease pathways. It is not a therapeutic target and may be misidentified in some analyses due to sequence similarities with FOLH1. The functional enzyme, Folate Hydrolase 1 (FOLH1), also known as Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA), is a well-established therapeutic target in prostate cancer and other diseases. FOLH1B is merely a pseudogene, not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any classical target; it does not serve the roles ascribed to FOLH1, and should not be used as a target for drug development or biomarker studies. If you require information on the active, functional target, you should refer to Folate Hydrolase 1 (FOLH1, PSMA).
