Overview

FTX transcript, XIST regulator (non-protein coding) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located upstream of XIST within the X-inactivation center (XIC) on the X chromosome[4][5]. FTX is a member of the non-coding RNA family and is involved in the epigenetic regulation of gene expression, specifically serving as a positive regulator of XIST and X chromosome inactivation (XCI) in mice[1][3][5]. In humans, FTX contains regulatory elements that interact with the XIST promoter region, but functional studies have shown that FTX does not play a major role in regulating XIST expression in humans, in contrast to the mouse ortholog[3]. FTX's involvement in XCI links it to processes such as cell differentiation, dosage compensation, and potentially cancer when X-linked gene regulation is disrupted[2][5]. FTX does not code for a protein and is not considered a therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter[^5]. There are currently no known drugs that directly target FTX, nor is it used as a clinical biomarker or has associated therapeutic safety concerns.
