Overview

Galanin receptor 1 and Galanin receptor 2 are members of the G protein-coupled receptor family that bind the neuropeptide galanin. They mediate diverse cellular outcomes, including induction of adipogenesis by activating MAPK and cAMP signaling pathways, often resulting in adipocyte differentiation, modulation of energy metabolism, and apoptosis. Galanin-mediated signaling through these receptors is upregulated in diet-induced obesity and is implicated in both adipose tissue expansion and the suppression of thermogenesis.
