Gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor, pi pseudogene (ENSG00000257852) is a non-coding genomic locus that displays sequence homology to the GABRP gene, which encodes the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor subunit pi. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are typically nonfunctional; they are not transcribed into functional protein products. While the functional GABRP gene is a subunit of the GABA_A receptor chloride channel mediating inhibitory neurotransmission[1][3], the pseudogene does not code for an active protein and has no direct physiological or pharmacological roles.
