Gastric cancer associated transcript 2 (GACAT2) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) implicated in various cellular processes, particularly as a regulator in cancer biology. GACAT2 is downregulated in most gastric cancer tissues and is associated with disease progression, distal metastasis, venous invasion, and nerve invasion. Research indicates that GACAT2 can also bind with proteins such as pyruvate kinase M1/2 to regulate mitochondrial function and impact cell differentiation, especially in inflammatory environments. GACAT2 is under investigation primarily as a biomarker for early detection and disease monitoring in gastric cancer, but it is not currently considered a direct therapeutic target, receptor, or enzyme. There are no known drugs that target GACAT2 directly, nor are there established safety concerns regarding its pharmacological manipulation at this time.
