Target intelligence / Profile preview
Genome-derived Neisserial Antigen 1030 (GNA1030), also known as Neisseria ubiquinone binding protein (NUbp), is a highly conserved periplasmic protein found in Neisseria species, including Neisseria meningitidis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae [1, 2]. It was identified through reverse vaccinology as a potential vaccine candidate and is currently a component of the multicomponent meningococcal group B vaccine, Bexsero (4CMenB) [5, 8]. Biologically, GNA1030 forms a homodimer that binds ubiquinone-8, contributing to the maintenance of the ubiquinone pool in the bacterial inner membrane, which is essential for the electron transport chain and oxidative stress response [4, 16]. In the Bexsero vaccine, GNA1030 is expressed as a fusion protein with the Neisseria heparin-binding antigen (NHBA) to improve the fusion protein's stability and enhance the induction of protective bactericidal antibodies [9, 13]. While its primary role in therapeutics is as a vaccine antigen for preventing invasive meningococcal disease, research also suggests it may contribute to cross-protection against Neisseria gonorrhoeae infections [6, 12].
Vaccine antigen that induces complement-mediated bactericidal antibodies and enhances the immunogenicity and stability of fused antigens like NHBA.
