Genome Polyprotein (Hepatitis C Virus Genotype 1b) (HCV 1b Polyprotein)

Target
HCV 1b Polyprotein
Molecular classification
Viral protein, Polyprotein
01

Overview

The genome polyprotein of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1b is a large precursor protein encoded by the viral RNA genome. It is approximately 3,011 amino acids long and contains all mature structural and nonstructural proteins necessary for the viral life cycle. The polyprotein undergoes co- and post-translational cleavage by host and viral proteases into structural proteins (Core, E1, E2) and nonstructural proteins (NS2, NS3, NS4A, NS4B, NS5A, NS5B). These individual proteins are essential for virion assembly, replication complex formation, and modulation of host responses. Genotype 1b infections are associated with more severe disease progression and treatment challenges compared with other genotypes.
