Target intelligence / Profile preview

Glutamate receptor, ionotropic kainate 5 (GluK5)

Target
GluK5
Molecular classification
Ionotropic glutamate receptor, Kainate receptor, Ligand-gated ion channel, Receptor
01

Overview

The kainate receptor subunit GluK5 (GRIK5) is a component of the ionotropic glutamate receptor family. It is a high-affinity subunit that requires co-assembly with other kainate receptor subunits (GluK1-3) to form a functional ion channel. GluK5 plays a role in modulating synaptic transmission, synaptic plasticity, and neuronal circuit activity. Studies suggest its involvement in the pathophysiology of depression and contextual memory.
