Glutamate receptor 3 (AMPA subtype) (GluA3)

Target
GluA3
Molecular classification
Ionotropic glutamate receptor, AMPA receptor, Receptor, Ion channel
01

Overview

Glutamate receptor 3, also known as GluA3 or GluR3, is a subunit of AMPA-type ionotropic glutamate receptors, which mediate fast excitatory neurotransmission in the central nervous system. It is encoded by the GRIA3 gene. AMPA receptors are tetrameric complexes composed of combinations of GluA1–GluA4 subunits. GRIA3 plays a critical role in synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory. Variants and dysfunction in GRIA3 have been linked to epilepsy, intellectual disability, and schizophrenia risk. It is predominantly expressed postsynaptically in the cortex and hippocampus.
