Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) mimics are synthetic molecules designed to replicate the catalytic activity of natural glutathione peroxidases. They catalyze the reduction of hydrogen peroxide and organic hydroperoxides using thiol cofactors such as glutathione (GSH), protecting cells from oxidative damage. Examples include Ebselen and diaryl diselenides. They are being developed for research and therapeutic purposes, particularly in combating oxidative stress-related diseases.
