Glutathione S-transferase alpha 12, pseudogene (GSTA12P)

Glutathione S-transferase alpha 12, pseudogene (GSTA12P) is a non-functional pseudogene belonging to the glutathione S-transferase (GST) alpha family cluster on chromosome 6p12.2. Unlike functional members of the GST family, which catalyze the conjugation of glutathione to a wide variety of substrates as part of detoxification and xenobiotic metabolism, GSTA12P does not produce a functional enzyme and has no enzymatic or receptor activity. As a pseudogene, it is not involved in therapeutic targeting and has no established biological or pathological function. GSTA12P is listed as a pseudogene in official genomic and gene annotation databases, and not among the 16 functional GST genes recognized in humans.
