Glutathione S-transferase alpha 7, pseudogene (GSTA7P), also known as GSTAP6, is a non-functional member of the glutathione S-transferase gene family, specifically within the alpha subclass. Pseudogenes such as GSTA7P carry sequence similarity to functional GST alpha genes but have lost the ability to encode an active enzyme, often due to exon deletions or sequence disruptions[1][9]. The GST alpha class is known for facilitating the detoxification of endogenous and exogenous compounds by catalyzing the conjugation of glutathione, but GSTA7P does not contribute to these processes because it does not produce an active protein. It resides among a closely linked gene family that has undergone duplication and gene conversion events during evolution[1][9][6]. No evidence exists that GSTA7P is involved in therapeutic intervention, disease, or drug interaction. Its characterization as a pseudogene means it does not conform to the criteria for a pharmacological or molecular target.
