Glutathione S-transferase omega 3, pseudogene (GSTO3P) is a reverse-transcribed pseudogene located on human chromosome 3[2][8]. Unlike functional glutathione S-transferase omega (GSTO) enzymes, which catalyze the conjugation of glutathione to a wide variety of substrates for detoxification, GSTO3P does not produce a functional protein and is generally not transcribed or translated into an active enzyme. The functional omega class GSTs include GSTO1 and GSTO2, which have roles in cellular redox regulation, xenobiotic detoxification, and involvement in diseases, but GSTO3P, as identified by genomic investigations, represents a non-functional remnant of a gene in this family—no enzymatic or biological function has been attributed to it[2][3][8]. Because GSTO3P is a pseudogene and not an active enzyme, it is not considered a therapeutic, research, or biomarker target.
