Overview

The GBS-NN2 fusion protein is a component of a next-generation vaccine in clinical development for protection against Group B Streptococcus infections. GBS-NN2 comprises the N-terminal domains of Alp1 and Alp2/3, surface-exposed proteins on GBS that are highly immunogenic and prevalent across clinical isolates. Combined with GBS-NN (RibN + AlpCN), this approach is expected to elicit broadly protective antibody responses in vaccinated individuals, including maternal transfer of protective immunity to newborns. The protein is not a classic receptor, enzyme, or ion channel, but a rationally designed antigen based on structural and epidemiological knowledge of GBS surface proteins.
