GTPase, IMAP family member 2 (GIMAP2) is a member of the GTPases of immunity-associated proteins (GIMAPs), which are a distinctive family of small GTP-binding proteins involved primarily in the regulation of lymphocyte apoptosis and survival[1][2][4]. GIMAP2 belongs to the immuno-associated nucleotide (IAN) subfamily of nucleotide-binding proteins, with a guanine nucleotide-binding domain of the TRAFAC class, and is encoded by the GIMAP2 gene located in a gene cluster on chromosome 7q36.1[1][4]. In structural studies, GIMAP2 can form heterodimers with GIMAP7 to exhibit GTPase activity, but lacks GTPase activity when alone[4][7]. GIMAP2 plays a central role in lymphocyte maturation and diseases associated with the immune system, and is implicated in conditions such as Behçet syndrome[4]. Structural research indicates GIMAP2 partakes in nucleotide-regulated oligomerization on intracellular membranes, suggesting a function as a scaffold protein for immune cell signaling[2].
