Target intelligence / Profile preview

Guanylate cyclase 2E, pseudogene (GUCY2EP)

Target
GUCY2EP
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, (Rodent homolog: Enzyme; guanylyl cyclase)
01

Overview

In humans, Guanylate cyclase 2E, pseudogene (GUCY2EP) is an inactivated gene that does not encode a functional enzyme. It is part of the guanylyl cyclase family, originally involved in chemosensation in the mammalian olfactory system, but has been rendered nonfunctional by mutations in humans and most primates. Gene symbols and aliases include GC-E and GUCY2E. In rodents, however, the functional homolog participates in olfactory signal transduction as a membrane-bound guanylyl cyclase[1][2][7].

Other names

Mechanism of action

null

03

Biological functions

In rodents: Chemosensation (olfactory signal transduction)In humans: None (no functional protein produced)
04

Disease associations

None in humans (no direct disease association due to pseudogene status)(In rodents: Potential involvement in olfactory disorders—by inference, not cited as direct evidence)
