Lactofiltrum is a pharmaceutical preparation primarily composed of hydrolytic lignin and lactulose, used to restore the balance of the intestinal microbiota. It is important to note that Lactofiltrum does not actually contain live probiotic bacteria; rather, it is a combination of an enteral sorbent and a prebiotic designed to support the host's endogenous beneficial flora. The lactulose component serves as a nutritional substrate that is selectively fermented by Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species, leading to their proliferation and the production of organic acids that lower colonic pH. These bacteria are critical for maintaining the intestinal mucosal barrier, synthesizing essential vitamins (such as B and K), and modulating the systemic immune response. By promoting the growth of these beneficial microbes while the lignin component adsorbs and removes toxins, allergens, and pathogenic metabolites, Lactofiltrum effectively treats conditions such as dysbiosis, irritable bowel syndrome, and various allergic disorders like atopic dermatitis (Vidal, 2023; AVVA RUS, 2024). The therapeutic target is the collective population of beneficial gut microbes rather than a single molecular receptor (NIH, 2022).
