H⁺,K⁺-ATPase, also known as the gastric proton pump, is an enzyme responsible for acidifying the stomach. It is located on the apical membrane of gastric parietal cells and actively transports hydrogen ions (H⁺) out of the cell in exchange for potassium ions (K⁺) from the gastric lumen. This process is essential for gastric acid production. Potassium-competitive acid blockers (P-CABs) target this enzyme to reduce acid secretion.
