Overview

H-2Db is a mouse major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecule, specifically the alpha chain of the D region in the 'b' haplotype, such as that found in C57BL/6 mice (UniProt P01899, IEDB). It functions as a cell surface receptor that presents endogenous peptide antigens, typically 8-11 amino acids in length, to CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) (scbt.com, Bio X Cell). This presentation is a critical step in the adaptive immune response, allowing the immune system to identify and eliminate virally infected or malignant cells (PubMed, bmj.com). H-2Db is also involved in the regulation of natural killer (NK) cells through interactions with various inhibitory or activating receptors (scbt.com). In research and drug development, H-2Db is a primary target for evaluating cancer vaccines, TCR-based immunotherapies, and understanding the mechanisms of immune evasion, such as MHC downregulation in tumors (ResearchGate, bmj.com). It is frequently used in preclinical models to study the immunogenicity of neoantigens and viral epitopes, such as those from lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) (PubMed).
