H2B.L histone variant 1, pseudogene (H2BL1P) is a member of the histone H2B family pseudogenes in humans and mice[2][4][7]. Unlike functional H2B genes, which encode the core histone proteins critical for chromatin structure and genome packaging, H2BL1P contains disrupted coding and regulatory regions that preclude expression of a functional histone protein[6]. The existence of H2B pseudogenes like H2BL1P reflects the evolutionary turnover and gene duplication events that expand and diversify histone gene families[1]. Pseudogenes do not have a known physiological or pathological role, do not produce protein, and are not present as therapeutic targets, biomarkers, or relevant disease genes[2][4][6][7]. Variant forms of functional H2B genes do exist (such as H2B.L/subH2B in mice and humans), and functional H2B variants can participate in chromatin remodeling in gametogenesis and development[1], but H2BL1P itself is a nonfunctional allele.
