Overview

HSP90B2P is a human pseudogene from the heat shock protein 90 family (beta subfamily)[4][2]. Unlike functional HSP90 proteins, which are molecular chaperones involved in protein folding, stress response, and regulation of client proteins[1][5], HSP90B2P does not encode a functional protein and its transcripts, if any, do not have characterized biological activity in humans[4][2]. Some pseudogenes are known to regulate their parent genes at the RNA level or participate in other regulatory genetic mechanisms[8], but there is no specific evidence that HSP90B2P plays such a role. Common confusion arises from the overlap between pseudogene names and their functional paralogs (such as HSP90B1, GRP94). HSP90B2P should not be considered a protein—nor a therapeutic target—and inclusion among target lists is erroneous unless specifically seeking pseudogene-related regulatory effects.
