Helper T cell activation refers to the process by which CD4+ T lymphocytes are stimulated to proliferate and differentiate upon recognition of antigen presented by MHC class II molecules on antigen-presenting cells (APCs), typically involving further costimulatory signals (such as CD28-B7 interaction) and subsequent secretion of cytokines. This activation is essential for orchestrating adaptive immunity, including activation of B cells, cytotoxic T lymphocytes, and other immune effector functions.
