The hemagglutinin (HA) antigen is a surface glycoprotein found on the envelope of the Influenza B virus, specifically in the Victoria lineage. HA is responsible for binding to host cell receptors and facilitating viral entry into cells. The Victoria lineage is one of two major lineages of Influenza B virus; the other being Yamagata. Antigenic differences between Victoria and Yamagata lineages mean that immunity or vaccination against one does not guarantee protection against the other; thus both lineages may be included in seasonal influenza vaccines when circulating concurrently.
